Programmatic File Hosting with Zero CAPTCHAs: Managing StaticSave via User API Tokens

Earlier, we introduced StaticSave’s open agents.md specification for temporary, anonymous hosting—allowing AI tools to generate short-lived links with zero sign-up friction.

However, real-world development workflows often demand more than throwaway URLs:

  • What if your autonomous agent needs to update the same stylesheet or script as you iterate?
  • What if your CI/CD pipeline needs to publish versioned mock JSON datasets under a dedicated project namespace?
  • What if you need permanent CDN URLs tied securely to your account that never expire?

Traditional cloud hosting requires configuring IAM permissions, complex OAuth consent screens, S3 bucket policies, or solving interactive browser CAPTCHAs that instantly break headless scripts.

To bridge this gap, StaticSave provides User Authentication APIs via Personal API Tokens. With a single bearer token, developers and AI agents can create folders, upload assets, live-edit files, and delete obsolete resources programmatically.

Why Authenticated APIs Change the Game

When making requests through the browser dashboard, security challenges like Cloudflare Turnstile ensure human interaction. But when you supply a valid personal API token (ss_...) in the request header, StaticSave’s backend automatically bypasses CAPTCHA checks, treating your scripts as first-class citizens.

Feature Temporary Anonymous Hosting Authenticated User API
Authentication None (Timestamp verification) Bearer ss_... API Token
Persistence Ephemeral / Temporary Permanent (Tied to your account)
Folder Organization Random flat URLs Custom named folders / namespaces
Live Updates & Overwrites ❌ No (Read-only after creation) ✅ Yes (pageedit endpoint with auto CDN cache purge)
Asset Deletion Automatic expiry ✅ Programmatic deletion on demand
File Listing & Inspection ❌ No ✅ Full pagination & metadata inspection
Global CDN Delivery temp.staticsave.com cdn.staticsave.com/{folder}/{file}.{ext}

1. Generating Your API Token

Getting started takes seconds:

  1. Log into your account at staticsave.com.
  2. Go to your Profile (/profile) or the API Documentation page.
  3. Click Generate API Token.
  4. Copy your token (starts with ss_, e.g., ss_9a7f82b...). Store it securely as an environment variable (STATICSAVE_API_TOKEN).

Security Note: API tokens have full programmatic access to create, edit, list, and delete files in your account. To protect your account integrity, dangerous actions (such as account deletion or token regeneration) are strictly disabled over API tokens.

2. Core API Architecture & Endpoints

All authenticated requests target two unified REST endpoints using application/x-www-form-urlencoded:

  • Data Endpoint (https://api.staticsave.com/api/user/data): For reading folders, files, and metadata.
  • Action Endpoint (https://api.staticsave.com/api/user/action): For creating, editing, and deleting folders and files.

Authentication Header:

Authorization: Bearer ss_your_api_token_here

3. Step-by-Step API Capabilities & Examples

A. Creating a Dedicated Project Folder

Group related project files (CSS, JS, JSON, images) into a clean namespace:

curl -X POST https://api.staticsave.com/api/user/action \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $STATICSAVE_API_TOKEN" \
  -d "addcustom=1" \
  -d "customname=agent-ui"

Response:

{
  "status": true,
  "message": "Folder Name Created. 🎉 Remember to create files in the folder.",
  "folder": "agent-ui"
}

B. Uploading Static Code or JSON Files

Deploy your code snippets, configurations, or mock REST endpoints up to 30,000 characters:

curl -X POST https://api.staticsave.com/api/user/action \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $STATICSAVE_API_TOKEN" \
  -d "addpage=1" \
  -d "custom=agent-ui" \
  -d "pagename=config" \
  -d "pagetype=json" \
  -d "visibility=public" \
  -d "content={\"theme\": \"dark\", \"version\": \"2.4.0\", \"status\": \"active\"}"

Instant Live CDN Link:

https://cdn.staticsave.com/agent-ui/config.json

C. Deploying Optimized WebP and JPG Images

StaticSave’s authenticated API supports base64-encoded image uploads. The CDN automatically serves them decoded as native binary images with matching Content-Type headers (image/webp or image/jpeg):

curl -X POST https://api.staticsave.com/api/user/action \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $STATICSAVE_API_TOKEN" \
  --data-urlencode "addpage=1" \
  --data-urlencode "custom=agent-ui" \
  --data-urlencode "pagename=logo" \
  --data-urlencode "pagetype=webp" \
  --data-urlencode "content=data:image/webp;base64,UklGRiQAAABXRUJQVlA4IBgAAAAwAQCdASoBAAEAAQAcJaQAA3AA/v39gAA="

D. Live Editing & CDN Cache Invalidation

Whenever your AI agent refines a stylesheet or updates a dataset, submit an edit with pageedit=1. StaticSave automatically purges the Cloudflare edge cache worldwide:

curl -X POST https://api.staticsave.com/api/user/action \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $STATICSAVE_API_TOKEN" \
  -d "pageedit=1" \
  -d "custom=agent-ui" \
  -d "pagename=config" \
  -d "pagetype=json" \
  -d "content={\"theme\": \"system\", \"version\": \"2.5.0\", \"status\": \"active\"}"

StaticSave enforces a smooth 2-second rate-pacing interval between file updates to guarantee clean edge distribution.

E. Listing and Inspecting Hosted Files

Query your account’s files with optional folder filtering and pagination:

curl -X POST https://api.staticsave.com/api/user/data \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $STATICSAVE_API_TOKEN" \
  -d "pages=1" \
  -d "custom=agent-ui" \
  -d "limit=20" \
  -d "offset=0"

4. Code Walkthrough: Autonomous Node.js / Python Agent Integration

Node.js / TypeScript Example

const API_URL = 'https://api.staticsave.com/api';
const TOKEN = process.env.STATICSAVE_API_TOKEN;

async function deployMockApi(folder: string, name: string, data: object) {
  const response = await fetch(`${API_URL}/user/action`, {
    method: 'POST',
    headers: {
      'Authorization': `Bearer ${TOKEN}`,
      'Content-Type': 'application/x-www-form-urlencoded',
    },
    body: new URLSearchParams({
      addpage: '1',
      custom: folder,
      pagename: name,
      pagetype: 'json',
      visibility: 'public',
      content: JSON.stringify(data, null, 2)
    })
  });

  const res = await response.json();
  if (res.status) {
    console.log(`Live endpoint ready: https://cdn.staticsave.com/${folder}/${name}.json`);
  } else {
    console.error('Deployment failed:', res.message);
  }
}

Python Example

import os
import requests

API_URL = "https://api.staticsave.com/api/user/action"
TOKEN = os.getenv("STATICSAVE_API_TOKEN")

def update_stylesheet(folder: str, filename: str, css_code: str):
    headers = {"Authorization": f"Bearer {TOKEN}"}
    payload = {
        "pageedit": "1",
        "custom": folder,
        "pagename": filename,
        "pagetype": "css",
        "content": css_code
    }

    res = requests.post(API_URL, headers=headers, data=payload)
    print(res.json())

5. Practical Real-World Use Cases

  1. Persistent Context for AI Coding Assistants:
    When agents (like Claude Code, Cursor, or AutoGen) build prototypes across multiple iterations, they can save runtime states, generated SVGs, or bundle outputs to a fixed URL, allowing humans to preview updates in real time.
  2. Headless Micro-CMS for JAMstack & Static Sites:
    Maintain configuration files, feature flags, or announcement banners in JSON on StaticSave. Fetch them client-side with full CORS support and zero database maintenance.
  3. CI/CD Pipeline Artifacts & Test Logs:
    GitHub Actions and GitLab CI runners can post formatted Markdown test summaries or build metrics directly to a live, shareable URL on every run.
  4. Instant Design System Tokens:
    Export CSS design variables or Tailwind theme configs straight from Figma plugins or build scripts into a shared CDN file.

Summary & Next Steps

Whether you are scripting a personal deployment pipeline or developing autonomous AI agent workflows, StaticSave’s User Auth APIs provide the simplest bridge between local code generation and persistent, global CDN delivery.
